Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba Calls Geneva Visit “Successful and Result-Oriented”

Kathmandu: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has termed her weeklong visit to Geneva as successful and result-oriented upon her return to Kathmandu.

Dr. Rana attended the 48th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), where she addressed the high-level segment on Tuesday, emphasizing Nepal’s long-standing commitment to human rights.

During her speech, she urged UN member nations to support Nepal’s candidacy for the UNHRC (2027-2029), the Economic and Social Council (2029-2031), and the Security Council (2037-2038). She expressed confidence that the global community would extend its backing.

Key Highlights of Her Visit:
✅ Meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, to discuss human rights and transitional justice in Nepal.
✅ Bilateral meetings with foreign ministers and delegations from Switzerland, Norway, Spain, Slovakia, the Philippines, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Mexico on mutual interests.
✅ Reception at Nepal’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, where she appealed to over 100 nations and UN officials for Nepal’s candidacy in key UN bodies.

Minister Rana led a six-member Nepali delegation and returned to Kathmandu on Friday afternoon.
